PRHSPS MINS 07-14-2020 City of Federal Way City Council PARKS, RECREATION, HUMAN SERVICES & PUBLIC SAFETY COUNCIL COMMITTEE Tuesday, July 14, 2020 5:00 p.m. SUMMARY Committee Members Participating via Video Conference: Chair Kochmar and Committee member s Assefa-Dawson and Baruso Council Members Participating via Video Conference: Council President Honda Staff Members Participating via Video Conference: Del Kolde, Assistant City Attorney, Steve Neal, Deputy Chief of Police, John Hutton, Parks Director, and Mary Jaenicke, Administrative Assistant II. Chair Kochmar called the meeting to order at 5:00pm Public Comment: None BUSINESS ITEMS Approval of Minutes Committee member Assefa-Dawson motioned to approve the June 9, 2020 minutes as written. Committee member Baruso seconded. Motion passed. Washington State Patrol (WSP) Marijuana Eradication Deputy Chief of Police Neal provided the background information. The Federal Way Police Department is requesting approval to accept funding from the Washington State Patrol to support locating and eradicating illicit marijuana plants. The maximum amount of the funding is $5,000 and will be used to supplement overtime costs incurred during the dismantling of large-scale marijuana grows in Federal Way. Chair Kochmar moved to forward WSP Ag reement to the July 21, 2020 consent agenda for approval. Committee member Assefa-Dawson seconded. Motion passed. Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program FY 2019 Deputy Chief of Police Neal provided the background information. The Federal Way Police Department has been accepting this grant since 2009. The total amount of this grant is $44,766.00 and will be used for equipment and supplies. Committee member Baruso moved to forward the FY 2019 Grant to the July 21, 2020 consent agenda for approval. Committee member Assefa-Dawson seconded. Motion passed.
