Colleen Chinen (Assoc. Pastor from Steel Lake Presbyterian Church) 1. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 2:05 p.m. 2. CITIZEN COMMENTS None. 3. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS None. 4. COMMISSION BUSINESS A. APPROVAL OF 8/19/2020 & 9/16/2020 MEETING MINUTES MOTION TO APPROVE 8/19/2020 MEETING MINUTES BY COMMISSIONER NORTH, SECOND BY VICE CHAIR BOSTIC. MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. MOTION TO APPROVE 9/16/2020 MEETING MINUTES WITH THE CORRECTION TO REMOVAL OF Commissioner Pratt will follow up with St. Francis. BY COMMISSIONER NORTH, SECOND BY VICE CHAIR BOSTIC. MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. B. PURCHASE ADDITIONAL RESOURCE GUIDES & HOLDERS Ms. Clark shared that over 800 brochures have been distributed and we need to order more brochures and brochure holders. Page 2 of 3 After discussion it was decided that we would order up to 2,000 brochures and up to 100 brochure holders. The Commissioners will start reviewing the brochure in June for any updates, additions, etc. for the new publication in August 2021. Commissioners will provide the drop off locations and how many brochures they have distributed. A master list will be created and shared with the Commission. MOTION TO APPROVE THE PURCHASE OF UP TO 2,000 BROCHURES AND UP TO 100 BROCHURE HOLDERS BY VICE CHAIR BOSTIC AND SECOND BY COMMISSIONER NORTH. MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. C. MOVING THE MEETINGS FROM MONTHLY TO QUARTERLY MEETINGS Chair Harvey shared that due to COVID-19 the Commissioners are not able to go out in the community to find out the information to move forward on different projects or to distribute the brochures to additional locations. She would like to move the meeting to either monthly or quarterly. After discussions with the Commission, it was decided that the meetings would be changed to every other month, with the option to change back to monthly as needed. MOTION TO MOVE THE MEETINGS FROM MONTHLY TO EVERY OTHER MONTH ON A TEMPORARY BASIS WITH THE ABILITY TO CHANGE AS NEEDED BY VICE CHAIR BOSTIC, SECOND BY CHAIR HARVEY. MOTION PASSED UNANIMOULSY. D. CANCELING NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER 2020 MEETINGS Chair Harvey recommended canceling the November 18, 2020 and December 16, 2020 meeting due to the holiday schedules. Commissioners agreed to the cancelation of the November 18, 2020 meeting. MOTION TO CANCEL THE NOVEMBER 18, 2020 MEETING BY CHAIR HARVEY, SECOND BY COMMISSIONER KING. MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. Further discussion occurred regarding the cancelation of the December 16, 2020 meeting. Due to the possible lack of quorum and the Chair and Vice Chair not being able to attend, the Commission decided that the December 16, 2020 meeting would be canceled, but if there was a need for a December meeting we would schedule one. MOTION TO CANCEL THE DECEMBER 16, 2020 MEETING BY CHAIR HARVEY, SECOND BY FRANK FIELDS. MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. Page 3 of 3 5. STAFF REPORT Commissioner Harvey would like to work with Councilmember Kochmar on Senior and Low-Income property tax. Staff encouraged her to email Councilmember Kochmar to see if they can work together. Commissioner North inquired about the newspaper article on the Senior Advisory Commission. Staff reported that she was contacted by the Federal Way Mirror and that they are planning an interview in mid -October. Commissioner Volheim suggested that the Senior Advisory Commission donate the resource guide to the Time Capsule. Everyone agreed, staff will give a copy of the Senior Resource Guide to the Mayor’s office. 6. NEXT MEETING Wednesday, January 20, 202 @2:00 PM. 7.
