AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
OF FEDERAL WAY, WASHINGTON, AMENDING
PROVISIONS RELATING TO THE FEDERAL
DIVERSITY COMMISSION (AMENDS ORDINANCE NO.
141, ORDINANCE NO. 93-203, AND ORDINANCE
94-216)

WHEREAS, the city of Federal Way recognizes that cultural
diversity is important to a community's quality of life; and
WHEREAS,
by previous Ordinance No.
92-141 in June of
1992, the City Council of the City of Federal Way, Washington,
established a Diversity commission (the "commission")
to review
issues and advise the City Council, as amended by Ordinance No. 93-
203 and Ordinance No. 94-216; and
WHEREAS,
it
is
necessary
to
provide
for
annual
appointments to fill vacancies on the commission and to provide for
the removal of commission members who are not fulfilling their
responsibilities;
NOW, THEREFORE,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FEDERAL WAY, WASHINGTON,
DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1.
Amendment.
section 2-89 of Division 5.
Diversity Commission of the Federal Way City Code ("FWCC") shall be
amended as follows:
DIVISION 5. DIVERSITY COMMISSION
Sec. 2-89. Membership.
(a) The diversity commission shall consist of elc7eß (11) nine
~ members appointed by the city council.

(b) The diversity commission shall serve without compensation.

Each member shall serve a term of three yearsT~ ~

to fill the expirinq terms on the diversity commission.

reason.

vacancv occurs

of

diversitv
commission member. the city council shall appoint a new member to
fill the unexpired term of that member.
The citv council mav
remove a diversity commission member at any time
if
the city
council
determines
that
member
is
not
fulfillinq
his
or
her
responsibilities to the satisfaction of citv council.
All members
of the diversitv commission shall serve until their successors are
duly appointed by city council.

The
provisions
of
this
ordinance are declared separate and severable.
The invalidity of
any clause, sentence, paragraph, subdivision, section, or portion
of this ordinance or the invalidity of the application thereof to
any person or circumstance, shall not affect the validity of the
remainder of the ordinance, or the validity of its application to
other persons or circumstances.
section 3.
Ratification.
Any act consistent with the
authority and prior to the effective date of this ordinance is
hereby ratified and affirmed.
section 4.
Effective Date.
This ordinance shall take
effect and be in force thirty (30) days from the time of its final
passage, as provided by law.
