Land Action Use - File #24-100317-UP & 24-100318-SE Project Name: Health through Housing Address: 1400 S 320th St, Federal Way, WA. 98003 TO: Director of Community Development My family, which includes two school age children, owns the neighboring property to the above proposed Land Action Use. We actually share a fence with this property. The adjacent properties are income regulated housing with 50-100 children residing iwithin them. I have some grave concerns about safety and how this proposed housing unit will be supervised. 1. What type of supportive housing will this be? 2. Will there be 24/7 security? 3. Are the potential residents being screened? 4. Are background checks being performed to ensure those with violent and sexual criminal charges are omitted from being potential residents? 5. Are there mandated requirements for residing in these units and who will be monitoring and enforcing them? 6. What mental health resources are being offered? I believe it's incredibly irresponsible to put this type of housing in such a dense neighborhood full of children. Very few non-housed individuals are drug free and desire change. The majority are addicts and have criminal backgrounds. Most addicts steal and commit crime in order to feed their addiction. The State, County and City continuously wants to "Solve" homelessness by throwing "housing" at people without enforcing drug addiction treatments. They get a free place to stay and continue to do drugs and /or decompensate mentally because they aren't on the proper meds. The housing component with no treatment is pointless. My comment does not include the small percentage that are actually families that got laid off or have medical issues that landed them on the streets or living in their car. We aren't suffering from a homeless crisis. This is a mental health and drug crisis. People who are on drugs and/or have mental health disorders that are untreated are unable to have or keep stable housing. Not even if a free one is handed to them. It simply is a recipe for failure. For the safety of my family and all other families in this neighborhood, I ask you to reconsider and chose another location. Jewel Lee 206-931-6131
