With the start of a new school year, the FWPD reminds all
drivers, students, and parents to put safety first in school
zones and near school buses.
It is everyone's responsibility to use caution and stay
focused and alert around traffic to ensure children can
travel to and from school safely.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration, 998 school -age children died in school -
transportation -related crashes from 2012 to 2021.
There were more school -aged pedestrians killed between
the hours of 7 and 8 a.m. and between 3 and 4 p.m. than
any other hours of the day.
