CALL MEETING TO ORDER Mayor Park called the meeting to order at 6:20 PM. Councilmembers Burbidge, Dovey, Faison, Kochmar, McColgan, Deputy Mayor Ferrell and Mayor Park present. 2. 2007/2008 PRELIMINARY BUDGET DISCUSSION Interim City Manager Derek Matheson and Management Services Director Iwen Wang presented Council with an update of the process to date, reviewed Council directives received to date, the steps staff has taken to implement Council's direction, and potential voter-approved revenue options packages. Council continued to review the proposed 2007/2008 Preliminary Budget and provided ; the following general directions: . Council unanimously agreed to pursue staff-recommended Option 2 - Community Safety Improvements Potential Service Package. . Council directed staff to modify the service package to increase the number of sworn officers from 13.5 to 18 and make any necessary modifications to the number of prosecutors, court personnel and public defenders resulting from the increased number of officers. . Council directed staff to coordinate with King County and schedule all necessary City meetings to place the issue on the November 2006 ballot. . Council agreed to place the issue on the February 2007 ballot if necessary. . Council unanimously agreed to a maximum voter-approved utility tax of 1.75%. . Council directed staff to begin a public outreach campaign regarding the ballot measure as soon as legally possible. . Council directed staff to return to Council with a more detailed explanation of the proposed parks security personnel. ---- - ---- --- ------------------- 3. EXECUTIVE SESSION Council adjourned to executive session at 8:07 p.m. pursuant to RCW 42.30.110(1)(g) to discuss qualifications of applicants for City Manager. 4.
