4. COMMISSION BUSINESS
A. Budget – Mr. Moe stated we have met 172% of our revenue expectations.
B. TUNE – Nothing new to report. The next TUNE is set for May 13 at Todd
Beamer High School.
C. Special Events – The Teen Flashlight Egg Hunt was attended by
Commissioner Acuna, who stated that this event was a lot of fun and very
successful. There was a good turnout of students for this event.
D. Talent Show – The Talent Show went well, no problems were encountered. A
few suggestions for next year’s event were: A larger variety and more treats
need to be served, and dress rehearsal needs to be started earlier. Band was a
little too loud for audience ears.
E. Teen Art Expo – Commissioner Salisbury stated that 46 pieces of artwork
were brought in and are currently on display at the Knutzen Family Theatre.
The artwork will be displayed through June 7 for public viewing. Honorable
Mention awards were given to Meredith Acree and Heather Sabin.
F. Youth Recognition Night – Commissioner M. Loo mentioned that so far it has
gone well, with 48 nominations – as many as the last three years combined.
There were a lot of high school nominations. Hopefully next year there will be
more middle and elementary student nominations. Also, nominations were
submitted by many community leaders, and not just teachers. Hopefully the
actual awards (following meeting) ceremony will go well.
G. Teen Car Show – Many questions on whether this event will actually take
place. The Commissioners in charge of this program have been absent from the
last couple of Youth Commission regular meetings. It will be further discussed
at the May meeting and a decision made.
H. Battle of the Bands – This event will be held at the Skateboard Park on August
20.
I. Youth Commission Video – Commissioner Acuna is collecting information
and footage.
5. NEW BUSINESS
None.
