Description of The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), Puget Sound
Proposal: Gateway Program, is hereby submitting application for a Shoreline Conditional
Use Permit for the subject project. The project will construct a new State Route
(SR) 509 Spur alignment between SR 509 and Interstate 5 (1-5) and a new portion
of SR 167 alignment between 1-5 and 20th Street East, and associated riparian
restoration and wetland mitigation within the cities of Tacoma, Fife, Milton,
Edgewood, and Unincorporated Pierce County, Washington.

Other Permits not included in the Application: Civil, utility, building and other discretionary permits for the
construction of the project. This permit application covers the shoreline and critical areas review.
City staff has preliminarily determined that the proposed use appears to be consistent with the zoning district
(Title 19). Other regulations for project mitigation include, but are not limited to, Zoning (Title 19), Critical
Areas (Title 17), Buildings and Construction (Title 15), and Low Impact Development (Title 21).
Public Hearing: A public hearing is required for this decision, but has not yet be scheduled. Once the public
hearing is scheduled, notice will be provided in the same manner as this notice of application. All citizens
who provide comment will also receive a notice of public hearing.
Comment Period: Agencies, tribes, and the public are encouraged to review and comment on the
proposed project. You may also request notification of any hearings, a copy of the decision once made and
information about appeal rights.

98424 or email at clarson cityoffife.org. The public comment period on this Notice of Application is fourteen
days (14) days. Comments must be received by 5:00 pm on February 10th, 2021.
This document constitutes notice of pending action according to the Tribal Agreement of 1989.
