I submit this as a longtime off and on resident of Federal Way. My first interaction with Federal
Way police was as a child, going through a period of mental distress and 911 was called for my
safety. These grown officers forced me to the ground for not wanting to talk to them and called
me, 12 at the time, a quitter for having suicidal ideation. I share this story because it is painfully
clear that the egotistical and detached nature of the FWPD has not changed in the 10 plus years
since then. Officer Breanna Strauss has simply made public what those who have already
interacted with our police know anecdotally: The police of this city view themselves as above
reproach, above the law and most cocnerningly, above their position as public servants. This
cannot be remedied with an insincere assurance that this conduct does not reflect the attitude of
the PD when the residents know otherwise, and a 10 hour suspension is laughable. The
residents of federal way deserve to feel that we are not being targeted, stalked or harassed by
power-hungry tax leeches who have forgotten their role in the community. At absolute bare
minimum, there MUST be an independent audit and reconciliation of every traffic stop this officer
was involved I'm during her time on the job, as this clearly calls into question the validity of all of
her interactions.
