Chair Chynoweth called the meeting to order at 8:02 a.m. August meeting minutes were approved as
written.

ACTION/NEW PROJECT – DISCUSSION ITEMS
None.
UPDATES
1. Traffic Graffics – Vice Chair Brugato brought up plans to re-launch the Todd Beamer Traffic
Graffic contest in October once school has begun and hopes to also get the contest included in the
Scholar Chronicle newsletter from the school district. Vice Chair Brugato also brought with her
the Mirror Article with questions regarding King County awarding $35,000 to East Federal Way
(unincorporated King Co.) for Utility Box Artwork to bring to light in case the commission is
asked to be involved.
2. Work Plan/Retreat – Staff Swan let the commission know the date for the Retreat would be
November 17th from 4-7pm at the FWCC as a way to determine priorities for 2023. Staff Geddes
emphasized the need for the commission to dial in what the priorities will be considering this is a
volunteer commission and there are many projects they would like to see happen.
3. Arts Explosion MOU – Vice Chair Brugato updated that her and Brian at the PAEC will be
meeting on September 8th(time TBD) to discuss Arts Explosion logistics, mentioned she has
asked the City for ARPA funds for the event but hasn’t heard back yet. Would like for our
graphics department to support to be able to ask for sponsorships. She has been applying for
grants to help pay for display walls, prize money, and advertising for the event. She stated the
next month would be critical in asking for sponsorships and solidifying plans with Brian at the
PAEC. Commissioner Barber brought up having her friend Pam Turpin, a professional artist and
art juror, to be a juror for Arts Explosion.
4. Contract for Services 2023 – Staff Swan reported that the application has been converted back
to a PDF file as was discussed and is now live on the website. Applications are due October 3rd.
So far, one application has already been received.
5. Arts Alive Fall 2022 @ PAEC – Staff Swan announced that the Arts Alive artwork drop off date
has been set for September 14th from 3-5pm. Artists will be able to submit artwork for $5 per
piece of artwork.
6. Comprehensive Plan Discussion – Staff Planner Chaney Skadsen presented an overview
outlining the Cultural Services chapter of the Comprehensive Plan and went through each of the
seven goals.
