It is completely unethical and reprehensible to charge homeless people $50 for trying to keep their belongings together. This is on top of the fact that this will cost the city 250 thousand dollars, the cost of which could probably cover all the shopping carts and have money left over to put into actual programs that help the homeless change their situation. $50 could be the difference between these people surviving or not. This is completely out of line and beneath the expected values of those who serve in public office, which exists to serve our citizens, not punish the most downtrodden and ill -afflicted.
