The Community Development Department has reviewed your inquiry regarding the removal of one fir tree,
four cherry trees, and one maple tree; all of which are deemed hazardous trees, from the Retreat at Maple
Hill property located at the address above. Your request is hereby approved subject to conditions.
Analysis
Federal Way Revised Code (FWRC) 19.120.030 (12) - Removal of overhanging vegetation and fire hazards,
or removal of invasive species, hazard trees, nuisance vegetation, or dead, dangerous, or diseased trees when
authorized by the director or his/her designee.
Federal YVay Revised Code (FWRC) 19.145.120 (7) (7) - Vegetation maintenance such as hazard tree
removal, removal of nuisance vegetation, and limited pruning for view preservation. The applicant shall
submit a vegetation maintenance plan prepared by a certified arborist or registered landscape architect that
includes the following: (a) A site plan at appropriate scale denoting the extent of the proposed vegetation
maintenance activity; (b) Tree and vegetation location, type, and caliper of each tree within the area subject
to the proposed vegetation maintenance activity; (c) Identification of methods of vegetation maintenance
(limited to hand tools and hand powered tools); and, (d) Proposed tree and/or vegetation replacement shown
on the site plan.
Conditions
The removal of the Fir tree within the indicated NGPA/Critical Area requires that the remains of the tree be
left within the habitat for decomposition.
Closing
