Ken gave me a call yesterday to review items that the Federal Way Inspector noticed during his
framing inspection that were not in compliance with the permit documents.
The first item involved the connection of the drag truss to the shear wall as shown on detail
4/S2.3. The field constructed condition has the wall slightly offset from the truss. This condition
is acceptable provided that the A35 clips @ 12" oc that are shown connecting the side of the
truss chord to the top of the wall's double top plate are located so that they connect the bottom
of the truss chord to the side of the wall's double top plate.
The second issue involves the replacement of the 4x6 posts either end of the 5 %2" x 12" GLIB
that spans over the window in the south wall of the dining room (10'-9" wide) with two 2x6
cripples and one 2x6 king stud. This change is acceptable. The cripples shall be connected to
the GLIB with a LCE4 cap on the interior face only.
Third issue is that it is acceptable to tie beams to posts with straps and/or A35 clips as long as
the posts are contained in a wall.
