On November 17, 2011, the City of Federal Way's Department of Community and Economic
Development received your request for information regarding exterior modifications to the restaurant
located at 31920 Gateway Blvd South, parcel #092104-9035. You have inquired about the land use
review process for exterior renovations, which include a new roof and replacing the existing fireplace
chimney with a new window system.
Pursuant to Federal Way Revised Code (FWRC) 19.15.030, review processes for improvements and
additions to developed sites, your proposed improvements would require a Process I Land Use review_
Additionally, your proposal will also require a separate building permit, available from the City's
Building Division. Any building permit questions may be routed to Scott Sproul, Plans Examiner, at 253-
835-2633.

I spoke with this guy when I had counter a week or so ago. He was asking questions about design changes and potential
use process reviews required for these proposed changes. In the end I told him to write a letter to get an AD on his
questions. Could you take this over? I would feel comfortable handling his questions, however you decide to route it.

Subject: The old Marie Calendars building - 31920 Gateway Center Blvd.
Isaac, I am the architect for a new "RAM restaurant" being proposed in the above mentioned project. As part of signing
the lease, we need to get preliminary approval or a determination on the City of Federal Way zoning, in terms of the
roof material change and removing the chimney.
I've attached the original photo of the front entry and a modified photo indicating a new metal roof, replacing the clay
tiles and the removal of the fireplace chimney.
We will be install a new window system where the fireplace was opening up the interior dining area.
Please review the documents and call me directly if you have any questions, if we get an initial direction from you we
will proceed with the permit drawings and submit within the next 4 weeks.
