Policy Question
Should the City Council accept the $50,000 funding from King County
for COVID-19 Pandemic Relief for the Performing Arts and Event
Center?
Grant Funding
PAEC received a one-time COVID unmet needs grant in the amount of
$50,000 from King County
The purpose of this funding is to support emergency assistance that will
address unmet needs and/or lost revenue related to or resulting from
COVID-19 pandemic on King County communities.
The Arts 4 Youth program (A4Y) at the PAEC has introduced the
magic of live theater to K-12th grade students since 2017.
• Matinees for school groups that align with and support state and federal learning standards
• Custom study guides, Pre -show classroom visits and Public Library events
• No other facility in South King County presents school -day performances and curriculum
support of this kind
• Each season is programmed to reflect our diverse community, the varied stories of US history,
and cultures from around the world
• FWPS that qualify receive ticket discounts and bus grants through Federal Way Performing
Arts Foundation
• Over 7,900 students attended A4Y events prior to COVID closures
• On average, 61% of students attending shows are qualified low-income
• Program supports Section F — Education Outreach of New Market Tax Credit
Requirements
• The New Market Tax Credit Beneficiary will provide low-cost student matinees,
outreaches into the schools, and study guides that follow common -core
curriculum for the State of Washington. This project will also offer sensory
friendly programs for autistic children.
• Arts Education Coordinator is knowledgeable and qualified to write common -core
curriculum in coordination with each scheduled performance
