17-105489-Auto Turn Analysis-02.16.23 TENW Transportation Engineering NorthWest Transportation Planning | Design | Traffic Impact & Operations 11400 SE 8th Street, Suite 200, Bellevue, WA 98004 | Office (425) 889-6747 MEMORANDUM DATE: November 30, 2022 TO: Laura Bartenhagen ESM Consulting Engineers FROM: Danielle Allen TENW SUBJECT: AutoTurn Analysis Project Name: IRG Woodbridge Business Park TENW Project No. 5219 ESM Consulting Engineers has requested that TENW prepare an AutoTurn analysis for the Woodbridge Business Park development in the City of Federal Way, Washington. The Business Park project is located between I-5 and Weyerhaeuser Way S, north of S 336th Street and south of S 323rd Street. Vehicular access to the development is proposed at four locations along Weyerhaeuser Way S. The purpose of this memorandum is to confirm the capabilities of truck access to/from the project site. The design vehicle for all turning movements analyzed in this study was assumed to be a WB-67. Based on site operations, it is assumed that two (2) of the four (4) driveways shall be used for truck operations. In addition, the City of Federal Way is requiring for the two site access points to have right turn pockets in order to remove turning trucks from the thru lanes. The results of our analysis are summarized below. Results TENW modeled the following WB-67 turning movements for the Woodbridge Business Park driveway accesses using AutoTurn Pro 11.0 software:  Site Access 1 To/From North (I-5): Right turn entering/left turn exiting  Site Access 2 To/From North (I-5): Right turn entering/left turn exiting TENW also modeled the following WB-67 turning movements for the roundabouts approaching the development:  S 336th/Weyerhaeuser Way S Roundabout: Through NB/Through SB  33rd Place/ Weyerhaeuser Way S Roundabout: Through NB/Through SB See ATTACHMENT A for all AutoTurn figures discussed above. Memorandum – IRG Woodbridge Business Park AutoTurn Analysis TENW November 30, 2022 Page 2 Conclusions It was assumed that the WB-67 truck must remain in its given lane when exiting or entering each driveway, no encroachment into bike lanes or two-way-left-turn lanes shall be allowed. Given all assumptions discussed within this memorandum, the analysis demonstrates that all three driveways can accommodate a WB-67 maneuvering in/out of the driveway as currently designed. In addition, both roundabouts can accommodate the WB-67 vehicle movements without conflicts. TENW has concluded that no design revisions are needed to the two existing roundabouts S 336th/Weyerhaeuser Way S and 33rd Place SE/Weyerhaeuser Way S, and two driveways along Weyerhaeuser Way S in order to accommodate a simultaneous in/out movement of a WB-67 vehicle at each driveway.
