YC Minutes 03-9-2023 CITY OF FEDERAL WAY YOUTH COMMISSION th Thursday, March 9, 2023 Maple Room 5:00 p.m. Federal Way Community Center MEETING MINUTES Vice-Chair Bryan called the meeting to order at 5:11pm. Present: Alexandre Milsten, Bryan Aguillar, Justin Lowy, Niko Manjares, Sienna Mayo, Zarah Imani Dennis Absent: Ankit Gowda (excused), Karis Song (unexcused), Nathaneal Mebrahtom (unexcused) Staff: Kim Ledyard (Community Recreation Coordinator), David Clemons (Dumas Bay Manager), Ashriya Guptar (Administrative Assistant) PUBLIC COMMENT No public comments. COMMISSION BUSINESS All Commissioners vote to approve the minutes from the previous meeting. Transportation Improvement Plan Kathy Davis from the Community Development/Public Works Department presents the Transportation Improvement Plan Survey. The commissioners scan a QR code to access the survey. State of the City Recap/Raffle Basket YC City Staff informs the commission that $245 has been raised from the FirStep Raffle Basket since it was first displayed at the FWCC Front Desk. This includes promotion at the State of The City Event as well as Son’s/Daughter’s Night Out. The Raffle drawing will take place on March 31st, and the winner will be contacted by City Staff. Movie Night (Update) Commissioner Justin has contacted a company called Swank asking if there are any movies with lower licensing fees. They informed him that Licensing Fees will be within the $400-$500 dollar range no matter how old/new the move is. The company confirmed that the Dark Knight’s licensing fee will cost around $450. Clemons informs the commission that May 6th is the only date the Dumas Bay theater is available. Commissioners agree to clean up the theater after the event. Vice-Chair Bryan asks who their target audience will be for the event. Commissioner Justin thinks that High Schoolers would be the best age group to advertise to. The commissioners agree that $8 might be too expensive for a ticket. Commissioner Justin suggests charging $8 and adding in swag or popcorn in addition to the ticket price. Vice-Chair Bryan motions to approve the Teen Movie Night date for May 6th. All commissioners motion to approve. th Youth Commission, March 9, 2023 Page 2 Commissioner Zarah will create a flyer so that the event can be advertised on Social Media and around schools. Commissioner Zarah will also come up with a Batman Themed drink idea. Commissioner Justin asks if guests can bring drinks or soda into the theater. Clemons informs the commission that soda is not permitted inside the theater. Commissioner Sienna suggests doing an intermission and having people eat/drink during intermission. Tickets will be on sale March 22nd-on the Community Center website. Ledyard will enter the ticket into RecTrac and publish it on the website. FWCC Job Fair (May 3rd) Ledyard informs the commission that there will be a job fair at the FWCC. Commissioner Justin suggests promoting the Movie Night event at the Job Fair.
