Architectural Design Intent
The bulkhead will be constructed of large rocks to provide armoring of the toe of the bluff. These will be placed approximately 3 ft. below
grade and will extend approximately 5 ft. above grade. The bulkhead will enclose the area that will serve as the foundation for the stair
tower. The stair tower and its foundation will be of fabricated steel, timber and concrete. Finishes will include painted steel and possibly
stained wood that can resist the elements and also be aesthetically pleasing to people viewing the bluff. Consideration will be given to
security from the beach and may necessitate lockable gate on the stair tower.
Statement of Existing and proposed use for all structures
Structures on the two parcels include the main retreat center with chapel, and stand alone structures including office, retired priest
residences (3 buildings) and one residence for the Retreat Center chaplain. There is no change in use of the existing structures on the
site.
