Dear Applicant,
On December 1, 2016, the City of Federal Way's Department of Community Development received a tree
removal request regarding hazardous trees surrounding commercial property. Staff met with Steve
Cushing.certified arborist, that same day to discuss the request. At that time he was informed that as the
trees are being characterized as "hazardous"the City requires the property owner to submit an arborist
report. Mr. Cushing was also advised to submit a completed tree unit calculation handout(copy enclosed).
At this time we have not received those required items to enable us to continue with review of the request.
Additionally, as the proposal includes trees located near the street, it will need to be verified if some of
the trees proposed for removal are within the public right-of-way or if they are on private property. All
properties are required to have a certain number of"tree units" per City Code and commercial properties
are required to have a specific type of landscaping along property lines, which includes trees.
In order to complete the review of the request, please submit an arborist report, site plan showing
locations of trees to be removed, and a completed tree unit calculation handout.
