A home occupation is permitted within a residential zone if it meets requirements of the City of Federal
Way's Revised Code (FWRC) 19.270.030. Subsection (1)(c) does not permit any external indication of the
business. Subsection 19.270.030 (1)(g) prohibits a home business if it may cause adverse impacts on the
neighborhood due to noise.
Your proposal to construct ten dog houses and to fence off 125 square feet of your yard does not comply
with subsection (1)(c) because the business includes external improvements and takes place outside of the
residence. Additionally the impact of boarding twenty dogs on your property may generate levels of noise

the is lines which is also a green built. We are going to be fencing off a play area of 125xl25x6'. On
the north side of the fence we are going to be building 10 dog houses with roofed kennels. Each Kennel/dog
house will be 5'xl4'. The Houses also will be on cinder blocks which will allow us to move them around and
not a permanent structure. See attached document to show interior and exterior pictures. The play area will be
south of the house. The entire facility will be setback at least 40ft from all property lines. We will be
creating a park like setting for dogs to play and stay.
We will be cutting down a handful of trees which are dead or a hazard to the existing structures. The
remaining trees will exceed the 25 tree units per acre requirement. We estimate there are several hundred tree
units on the property. We will also be planting additional tree units as an asthetic screen from the street which
also will create a noise buffer from any existing houses. The north side of the fenced in area and dog houses
will be approximately 40 from existing septic drain field. The South side of the fence will be approximately
50' from a small seasonal stream. (see attached King County maps for specific locations).
According to FW Revised Code 19.260.060 we can house 20 dogs for the first 35,000 sqft and then an
additional dog for every 500sqft. Our expansions plans include adding another 10 kennels which would put
us at a total of 20 dogs MAX.
