I ou propose con'T umgm
1roperty). You argue that after making alterations, both functional and cosmetic, the structure should be
considered a shed rather than a storage container.
I agree with your position. The storage container, once modified in such a way that it no longer has the
appearance of a storage container, has the appearance of a storage shed and can no longer be utilized as a
storage container, and therefore becomes a legal shed. The city does not regulate the aesthetics or type of
material used for shed construction. This idea is similar to the recent trend of utilizing storage containers for
home, office, and multi -family construction.
- Cover the structure with siding.
- Install windows and standard entry do
- Add a •#,
- Remove tie downs and lifting bracket.]
The steel doors and latching mechanism may remain if the doors are sided like the rest of the container. Side
and rear yard setback requirements are five -feet.

I have a small shipping container on my lot that I have been having troubles trying to comply to the
City Ordinance to use it for a storage shed.

I would like to "de -containerize" the container in order to use what allowable portion that would be left
as the base for an under 200 square foot, no permit required, storage shed. I propose to remove the
container door closing latch system and remove the steel doors if necessary, install two windows for
light, and install a standard entry door in one side. Using siding and trim, the remaining steel structure
would be completely covered and a slanted or peaked roof would be added. The shed would be jacked
up and foundation blocks installed under it. Other features that allow the resulting structure to be
removed from the definition of a container, will be to use a cutting torch to remove part of the comer
tie down and lifting brackets to make them unusable in that Rinction.
Uurthermore, the structure would be turned 90 degrees and moved to the other side of the lot, with
appropriate set backs, so as to not be visible from the street. Trees and shrubbery already there would
make the shed much less visible to the adjoining neighbors.
This also would allow me to demolish an old storage shed that is nearby, and which does block
light and view of my neighbor's kitchen window.
L know that I have very little time to get these issues resolved, but my financial position and some
health issues (I am recovering from cancer treatments) have held me back. I sincerely hope that we
can resolve this problem.
