Analysis
Applicability — The applicant proposes to replace 6 tree units on top of the existing 16.5 tree units that
L-Minimuin after removal, Federal —W-i4m, Revised Code,(EWRQ 19.120.020 states no I - sterson shall remove
any trees on a site without first obtaining approval of a tree retention plan by the director, except for those
activities that are exempt as described in FWRC 19.120.030.
Decision
After felling the trees as proposed, the tree unit count at the property falls short by .5 units in meeting its
tree unit requirement per FWRC 19.210.130(3). Twenty three (23) tree units shall exist at the property
instead of the proposed 22.5. Pursuant to FV,,rRC 19.120.030(12), the requested tree removal and retention

keeping a tree in place or providing an additional tree.

We propose to remove 11 trees from this property and to replace them with 6 new trees.
The trees being removed are all spruce trees which have been topped in the past, and they are
Already causing or threatening to cause damage to the pool building on the site. The trees being
removed comprise a total of 17.5 units, and reduce the tree units per acre to 16.5.
The replacement trees include two Sourwoods, 2 Crabapples, and 2 Japanese Snowbell trees, positioned
as shown on the attached site drawing. The new trees comprise a total of 6 tree units and bring the tree
units per acre back up to 22.5. All were taken from the approved Federal Way Replacement Tree List.
As you can see on the attached "Calculating Tree Units" form, the minimum tree units required are 22.4.
We also plan to plant smaller shrubs and other plantings around our pool building.
