1-Ke: File #16-103163-00-AD; GEOLOGICALLY HAZARDOUS ARFA INTRUSION APPROVAL
Elliott, 3500 SW Dash Point Road, Federal Way
The city has completed an administrative review of the request to drill one boring hole within a geologically
hazardous area (GHA) The boring location is 10 feet from the top of a steep slope/landside area at the southwest
corner of the house. There is also an eagle nest with young in a tree in the slide area. The request is hereby
conditionally approved based on the following findings.
Pursuant to Federal Way Revised Code (FWRC) 15.10.160, development activities, clearing and grading, or
landscaping may not occur on or within 25 feet of a geologically hazardous area unless no reasonable alternative
exists, and then only if the development activity will not lead to or create any increased slide, seismic, or erosion
hazard. In the case of the above -referenced project, the intrusion into the steep slope area is required for
reconnaissance of the site, which is necessary for preparing the geotechruical report.
Based on an analysis of submitted information, the city finds that boring within the geologically hazardous area is
acceptable. Therefore, the development activity is subject to the following conditions:
CONDITIONS
• This approval is based upon strict observance of all applicable federal laws, including the Bald and
Golden Eagle Protection Act. The applicant is responsible for adhering to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service National Bald Eagle Management Guidelines (enclosed).
• Any disturbed area shall be immediately restored to its previous condition.
If you have questions regarding this decision, please contact Associate Planner Becky Chapin at 253-835-2611
