Your letter notes that you would install a black chain-link fence around the playground area that is a minimum of 42 inches in height,and the maximum height of the play structure is 13.5 feet. The submitted site plan depicts a 42'x 36'play area(1,620 square feet) located adjacent to the east entry,which is intended to accommodate no more than one class of twenty children at any one time. The location of the proposed playground equipment is consistent with the playground area identified on sheet L1.5 of the Christian Faith Center Landscape Plan prepared by Abbey Road Group LLC,dated August 3, 2005,and approved by the City on September 18, 2006. The playground area is considered part of the overall recreation area and play field uses that received Master Plan approval. This playground area is also available for use by daycare participants. Under Federal Way Revised Code(FWRC) 19.205.130,schools are required to have outdoor play areas with at least 75 square feet for each child using the area at any one time, and be enclosed by a solid fence or other screen at least 6 feet in height.' The proposed 1,620 square-foot play area accommodates up to 21 children. The proposed playground installation is approved subject to the following conditions: • Fencing around the play area shall be at least 6 feet in height, and shall be solid fencing or if chain- link then it shall be screened with vegetation in accordance with FWRC. The applicant is required to obtain a building permit for any fencing over six feet in height. The system we have selected is designed to incorporate physical development with structured and free playtime. The playground plans are attached for your review.
