SPECIAL MEETING SUMMARY
Wednesday, June 28th, 2023

Commissioners Present: Chair Lana Bostic, Vice -Chair Catherine North, Commissioner Kenneth
Pratt, Commissioner Cheryl Volheim, Commissioner Sue Ellebrecht,
Commissioner Debbie Harvey, Commissioner Frank Fields (remote)
Absent: Commissioner Tammy Dziak, Commissioner Vicky Foreman
Staff Present: Deputy Mayor Susan Honda, Amy Glandon
Citizens Present: None
1. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 2:00pm.
2. PUBLIC COMMENT
Amy Glandon noted that a message was received from Aaron Johnson with BIPOC
Apostrophe wanting to make a public comment, but none has been submitted. She stated
she would send it out if it was received.
3. COMMISSIONER'S COMMENTS
i None.
4. COMMISSION BUSINESS
A. ACTION - SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION PARTICIPATING IN COMMUNITY CENTER ONGOING
OUTREACH
Commissioner Debbie Harvey noted that the subcommittee that was formed at the last
Commission meeting met with David Schmidt at the Community Center and that they will
be opening up every Wednesday from 10am-1pm for senior activities in the senior lounge
there. The request is coming to the Commission to gauge interest in participation one
Wednesday per month. Vice -Chair Catherine North asked if it would be just the commission
or if there would be speakers brought in. Commissioner Harvey said that it is a blank canvas
but will require participation. This was brought to a special meeting because the fall
recreation book is going to print and needs to be turned in by Friday to David. Chair Lana
Bostic asked the time commitment, and Commissioner Harvey noted from 10am-1pm the
third Wednesday of each month from September to December. Commissioner Harvey is
hoping that at least 2 Commissioners per month will volunteer to be present.
Commissioner Harvey moved for participation in the Senior Outreaches at the Community
Center; second by Vice -Chair North. Motion passed unanimously.
B. ACTION - NAMING OF COMMUNITY CENTER OUTREACH OPPORTUNITY
Commissioner Frank Fields noted that he came up with the following names: Senior
Advisory Social Hour, Senior Advisory Commission Meet & Greet, Senior Commission Social
Hour. Commissioner Debbie Harvey recommended Senior Commission Social. Deputy
Mayor Susan Honda recommended Senior Commission Connection.

Commissioner Harvey moved the name of Senior Commission Connection; second by
Commissioner Kenneth Pratty. Motion passed unanimously.
Chair Lana Bostic asked if the subcommittee would be assigning dates to the commission,
which Commissioner Harvey said no. Commissioner Sue Ellebrecht asked if the Federal Way
Mirror would cover these activities, and Chair Bostic said she would talk with Olivia about
it. Commissioner Fields asked that options for topics for each commission meet -up be
discussed at the next meeting.
5. STAFF REPORT
■ Ms. Amy Glandon noted that the new brochures were paid for today and should be ready
for pick-up mid -to -end of next week.
6. OTHER BUSINESS
■ None.
7. NEXT MEETING - Wednesday, July 12th, 2023 at 2:OOpm in the Hylebos Conference Room at City
Hall.
8. ADJOURN -The meeting adjourned at 2:19pm.
