1. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 2:00pm.
2. PUBLIC COMMENT
■ Sharon Greene introduced herself and stated that she is working with emergency
management and is joining commission meetings to hear what is going on and how
emergency management can help.
• Mary Clingan introduced herself and stated that she was invited by Vice -Chair Catherine
North and was interested in finding out what the Senior Advisory Commission was involved
in.
• Pastor Colleen Chinen introduced herself and stated that as a pastor at Steel Lake
Presbyterian Church, they focus on seniors, families and caregivers.
3. COMMISSIONER'S COMMENTS
■ Commissioner Cheryl Volheim stated that she went to the Historical Society's open house
and that the event was very informative and that they are working on a new historical
landmark in Federal Way.
• Commissioner Frank Fields stated that he was at the Broadband Advisory Task Force
Meeting earlier in the day and that a letter is being drafted to bring before Council in
August.
■ Chair Lana Bostic mentioned that Proposition 1 is going to be on the ballot in August and
has to do with an existing tax that supports veterans, seniors and human services.
• Vice -Chair Catherine North mentioned that she received a signature verification card for
voting and that it was a valid elections communications.
4. COMMISSION BUSINESS
A. APPROVAL OF JUNE 14TH, 2023 AND JUNE 28TH, 2023 MEETING MINUTES
Vice -Chair Catherine North moved approval of the meeting minutes as presented; second
by Commissioner Frank Fields. The motion passed unanimously.

B. PRESENTATION ON HEALTHY AGING / GUEST: TRACI ADAIR & ESTHER LEE, KING COUNTY
ADULT SERVICES DIVISION
Ms. Amy Glandon introduced Ms. Traci Adair and Ms. Esther Lee. Ms. Adair explained that
their positions with King County are funded through the levy that is back up for election in
August. She stated that they are responsible for community engagement and plan the
administering of the funding. This levy has a 6-year life, and has been renewed once before.
Ms. Adair and Ms. Lee talked about the landscape of the aging network and the efforts to
create King County as an "Age Friendly" County. They are working on looking at policy,
legislation, infrastructure throughout the county on aging well to see if it is feasible county-
wide.

**Commissioner Frank Fields left the meeting briefly at 2:32pm and returned at
2:33pm. * *
**Ms. Amy Glandon left the meeting briefly at 2:38pm and returned at 2:39pm.
C. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORT: COMMUNITY CENTER COORDINATION
Commissioner Cheryl Volheim stated that the first event is on September 20th and the
commission needs to begin to make a plan for each of the Wednesdays. With the absence
of Commissioners Tammy Dziak and Debbie Harvey, this item was moved for further
discussion atthe August meeting. She also mentioned utilizingthe Hyde busses and getting
the word out about it as well.
D. DISCUSSION REGARDING RETREAT
This item was tabled until the August meeting.
E. DEEP EDITING OF BROCHURE
This item did not take place after some debate on the necessity of the item.
F. DISCUSSION ON PROCLAMATION LOCATIONS
This item was tabled until the August meeting.
G. DISCUSSION ON FARMER'S MARKET TABLE
Chair Lana Bostic stated that the Commission will have a table at the Farmer's Market on
Saturday July 15. She requested volunteers from commissioners to help man the table
and Ms. Amy Glandon to bring candy, bowl, brochures, commission booklet, and
applications for the commission.
5. STAFF REPORT
■ Ms. Amy Glandon mentioned that Commissioner Kenneth Pratt had sent a comparison for
populations with senior centers which was passed out to the Commission, the need for
more brochures at the library, the Coffee Meet & Greet between Council and the School
District on Saturday, and supporting the Concerts in the Park at Steel Lake.
6. OTHER BUSINESS
• None.
7. NEXT MEETING - Wednesday, August 9th, 2023 at 2:OOpm in the Hylebos Conference Room.
