Prior to deploying the geogrid reinforcement, the Contractor shall submit to the Engineer a manufacturer's certificate of compliance. The geogrid re nforcement shall be free from defects or damage. If the geogrid is stored on site, the Contractor shall take measures to protect it from damage, keep it free from dust and dirt, and cover it with an opaque plastic sheet to prevent degradation from ultra -violet light. The reinforcement shall form horizontally continuous layers. Except where a second layer of grid is required at the return wall face, no overlaps or seams shall be oriented parallel to the face of the wall. The Contractor may join the reinforcement by overlapping it a minimum of 18-inches such that the seams are oriented perpendicular to the face of the wall. The Contractor shall ensure that the geogrid is deployed so that the geogrid strength is in the direction perpendicular to the face of the wall and meets the specified minimum physical properties. 3. The contractor shall use falsework at the face of the wall to provide temporary support during the placement of each lift. 4. Structural fill shall be compacted to at least 95 percent of the Maximum Modified Proctor density (ASTM D-1557). Structural fill shall meet the gradation requirements listed in these notes. 5. Heavy compaction equipment shall remain at least two (2) feet from the face of the wall. Structural fill placed within three feet of the face of the wall shall be compacted firmly using a minimum of two passes with light compaction equipment. No vehicles shall operate directly on the reinforcement. A minimum of six -inches of fill shall be placed on the reinforcemeni before equipment may operate on it. 6. Drain gravel shall consist of clean gravel and shall meet the gradation requirements listed in these notes. Overlap the boards as shown on the detail drawing 2. Secure the boards by driving two (2) 1-5/8" galvanized self - tapping screws from one board into the end grain of another. 3. Place plywood on top of the box created in Step 2. Make certain that the sides are square to the plywood and that the small overhang is distributed equally. 4. Secure the plywood to the sides with 1-1/4" galvanized self - tapping screww every six (6) inches. 5. Turn box upside down 6. Lay a 2l"x21"0' polystyrene foam inside the box. 7. If you find that the foam is too large to fit neatly inside the box trim so that edges do not crumble. 8. Make certain that the foam does not fill the box to the very top. There should be an air gap between the top of the foam and the underside of the top. The air gap prevents the plywood from rotting. Place spacers on top of the foam. Ensure that the spacers will hold the foam firmly against the bottom of the box. 9. Secure the top with 1-1/4" galvanized self -tapping screws spaced every six (6) inches. 10. Pre -drill a pilot hole through the bottom into on of the sides. 11. Screw the eye (approx. shaft diameter: ''A", length 1-1/2") into the hole. 12. Prepare 8"x8"A" concrete block as an anchor 13. Attach length of rope from eye on platform to concrete block. Select a length of rope that is three to four times the maximum depth of the water. (DO NOT USE FLOATING POLYPROPYLENE ROPE OR A LOOSE WEAVE NYLON ROPE. WATERBIRDS MAY MISTAKE IT FOR FOOD AND GET THEIR BEAKS ENTANGLED IN THE ROPE.) Construction Notes 1. If chains or cables are required to anchor LWD, they should be installed such that the present no visual or safety hazard. 6.1 Condition and Species of Woody Debris: Western red cedar is the preferred species. Plans which specify the use of LWD shall include at least 50% western red cedar. By order of preference, the remainder shall include combinations of either Douglas fir, western hemlock, black cottonwood, or big -leaf maple, as appropriate to habitat type being created or restored. other species may be used only if approved by King County DDES Senior Ecologist. A minimum ratio of 7:1 coniferous: deciduous species should be used. 6.2 Density of Woody Debris in Relation to Mitigation Performance Standards: The density of woody debris specified for installation on this project shall be based on mitigation performance standards included in "Reference Standards and Performance Standards for the Establishment of Depression Flow -Through Wetlands in the Puget Lowlands of Western Washington" by A.L. Azous, M. Bowles, and K.O. Richter, January 16, 1998, King County Department of Development and Environmental Services.
