CONDITIONS:

with a wattage in excess of 25 watts.(2)Any exposed incandescent lamp with an internal or external reflector.(3)Any
continuous or sequential flashing device or operation.(4)Except for electronic changeable message signs,any
incandescent lamp inside an internally lighted sign.(5)External light sources directed toward or shining on vehicular
or pedestrian traffic or on a street.(6)Internally lighted signs using 800-milliamp or larger ballasts if the lamps are
spaced closer than 12" o.c.(7)Internally lighted signs using 425-milliamp or larger ballasts if the lamps are spaced
closer than 6"o.c.(8)All illumination for externally illuminated signs must be aimed away from nearby residential uses
&on-coming traffic.
A separate electrical permit is required for any sign requiring electrical work.Electrical work must be approved by one
of the City's electrical inspectors.Please call the inspection request line at 253-835-3050 to schedule an on-site
inspection,prior to the installation of any such sign(s).
FINAL SIGN INSPECTION IS REQUIRED in order to receive the sign registration sticker.Please call 253-835-3050 to
schedule the inspection.

Dear Ms. Smith,
I am writing this letter to request a Minor Deviation to allow the existing
decorative brick base for the freestanding sign to remain as is for the proposed
sign replacement permit. The current width of the brick base is 4'-4" and the
overall height of the proposed sign display will be 10'-2". The existing brick base
was installed by the Federal Way School District a number of years ago to
replace the original aluminum pole cover. The brick for the base matches the
school building brick and it also has a complex pattern at the edges. To modify
the existing brick base width to be 5'-1" does not seem necessary as the current
base meets the intention of the "construction standards" portion of the sign code.
I would request for a formal interpretation on this issue and would be more than
willing to meet with you and any other interested persons to discuss this issue if
necessary. Please contact me if you have any questions or need any other
additional information.
