Avenue Northwest, Suite 160, PMB 43 Seattle, Washington 98117 Subject: Geotechnical Assessment Pipe Pile Support 3620 Southwest Dash Point Road Federal Way, Washington Dear John: 102 033 ` Earth I Solutions NW«C Earth Solutions NW LLC Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Observation/Testing and Environmental Services As requested, Earth Solutions NW, LLC (ESNW) has prepared this letter and geotechnical assessment of recent pipe pile installation efforts. ESNW is .currently providing overall geotechnical support for the site with respect to the ongoing landslide repair. It should be noted that the December 2022 landslide that occurred adjacent to the residence was determined to have been initiated by a broken water line. Based on recent onsite evaluation by ESNW and the undersigned, the original slide area has shown no evidence of continued displacement. In any case, the scarp and lower "runout" portions of the slide are covered with plastic sheeting. Such measures should be maintained until final soldier pile stabilization of the area is completed. With respect to the existing residence, a series of pipe piles were recently installed along the north and northwest (rear yard) sides of the building foundation. Although the main house structure and foundation were not compromised as a result of the December 2022 landslide, installation of supplement foundation support elements in the form of pipe piles was determined by the undersigned to be a prudent foundation mitigation measure if occupancy of the residence was desired. On this basis, pipe pile installation was recently completed and deemed acceptable based on our review and observation of the work. The photo below illustrates a completed pipe pile installation and bracket connection. 15365 N.E. 90th Street, Suite 100 • Redmond, WA 98052 • (425) 449-4704 • FAX (425) 449-4711 John Stevenson dba Off the Porch November 13, 2023 p Pipe Piles and Brackets (November 2023) ES-9258 Page 2 Based on our assessment and field observations, the pipe pile installation and associated foundation bracket connections were completed in general accordance with our recommendations and the structural design. On this basis, the foundation is considered to be fully supported with a sufficient level of redundancy given completion of the pipe pile installation. In this respect, it is our professional opinion that acceptable foundation support has been provided such that the residence can be occupied. It should be noted that -the contractor should continue to monitor the slide scarp area and ensure that the impacted area of hillside remain covered with plastic sheeting until final soldier pile stabilization of the slope has been completed. We trust this letter meets your current needs. Please call if you have any questions or if we can be of further assistance. Sincerely, EARTH SOLUTIONS NW, LLC 11 /13/2023 Raymond A. Coglas, P.E. ESNW is currently providing overall geotechnical support for the site with respect to the ongoing landslide repair. Based on the observations of the undersigned engineer and his field representative, each driven pin pile achieved the specified refusal within the underlying competent native soil deposits. On this basis, the allowable design capacity of 4 kips was achieved at each pile location. Given the observed installation and achieved refusal, it is the professional opinion of the undersigned engineer that the pin pile installation was completed in accordance with the plans and our geotechnical recommendations.
