This letter is in response to your September 21, 1999 letter in which you request a minor
deviation of the sign code, pursuant to Federal Way City Code (FWCC) Section 22-
1602(C) (4) .
The Construction Standards for the proposed monument sign requires the sign base be equal to
the sign width itself, per FWCC Section 22-1602(C)(2). The proposed addition of 4 inches on
each side will be for structural reinforcement only and should not detract from the overall look
of the sign, therefore it will be considered a minor deviation. The city concludes that the
resulting sign does not significantly change the relative proportion of the sign base to the sign
face.

Dorlem L. 1V1cGlannan A minor deviation is required to provide a greater amount of concrete
Rectnr support for the sign that has been already constructed. The main support
structure, inside of the sign, is at the outside edge as shown in our revised
drawings. The deviation will add 4 inches to each end of the concrete pedestal
and provide sufficient concrete. We have also used five 30-inch screws to hold
the sign down to the base. New drawings (to scale) are attached to the letter.
The Church of the Good Shepherd requests approval of this deviation.
