MEETING MINUTES
Commissioner Juarez called the meeting to order at 5:01pm.
Present: Aissata Bangoura, Juan Juarez, Satinder Singh Grewal, Sienna Mayo, Karis Song, Winston Nguyen
Absent: Zarah Imani Dennis (excused), Maleha Tasnim (excused)
Staff: Kim Ledyard (Community Recreation Coordinator), David Clemons (Dumas Bay Manager), Breanna Bigelow
(Administrative Assistant)
PUBLIC COMMENT
Vice-Chair, Karen Brugato, from the Federal Way Arts Commission attends the meeting to introduce herself and
the Arts Commission. The Federal Way Arts Commission’s next event is Arts Explosion, which will include a section
for self-portraits. Vice-Chair Brugato would like quarterly all commissions meeting to be held for all commissions
serving the City of Federal Way.
COMMISSION BUSINESS
Approve Minutes from the Previous Meeting
Commissioner Song motions to approve the minutes from the previous meeting. Commissioner Singh Grewal
seconds the motion.
Expectations -David Clemons
Clemons explains that one of the expectations of the commissioners is to raise funds for the Firstep Scholarship.
The commissioners would like to have a raffle basket fundraiser, but have no plans or donations for it. The
commissioners need to plan out how they can receive donation items.

Update on donations gathered since last meeting
Commissioner Bangoura has attempted to contact Chick-Fil-A, but has not heard back. She also believes Baskin
Robbins will donate coupons or a gift card. Commissioner Juarez attempted to contact 5 Guys Federal Way, but
has not heard back. He has a meeting scheduled with El Centro De La Raza next week, and will ask for a donation
from their skating rink. Commissioner Nguyen has attempted to contact Dairy Queen and Barnes & Noble, but has
not heard back from either.
Assign each commissioner to check in with 2 businesses
Commissioner Juarez plants to contact El Centro Da La Raza, Cold Stone Creamery, and Dick’s Drive-In.
Commissioner Bangoura will contact Chick-Fil-A. Commissioner Mayo will contact Centerstage Theatre, Secoma
Lanes, Poverty Bay Café, and Emerald City Smoothie. Commissioner Nguyen will contact Dairy Queen, Barnes &
Noble, and Pinot’s Palette. Commissioner Singh Grewal will contact Daiso. Commissioner Song will contact
Menchies and Dick’s Sporting Goods. Clemons advises all commissioners to have their donations sent directly to
the Federal Way Community Center.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 8th at the Federal Way Community Center.
