On October 19, 2004, the City of Federal Way's Community Development Services Department received
your application to establish land use compliance for an attached 620 square -foot Accessory Dwelling Unit
(ADU) within a 2,570 square -foot single-family home located at 29828 181h Avenue South. The subject site
is zoned Single -Family Residential (RS-7.2). Pursuant to Federal Way City Code (FWCC) Section 22-648,
an attached ADU is permitted in an RS zoning district, subject to the provisions of the special regulations
and notes of that code section. The proposed ADU meets all requirements of FWCC Section 22-648.
The proposed ADU is granted preliminary approval based on the following conditions:
1. The ADU review fee of $146.50 must be paid prior to building permit issuance.
2. An inspection is required to verify that the ADU meets the minimum standards of the Uniform
Housing Code. Please contact Code Compliance Officer Martin Nordby at 253-835-2631 to
schedule an inspection.
3. Upon satisfying the required inspection, you will need to come to the Community Development
Services Department and sign the Letter of Application and Deed Restriction, and have the
document notarized. Please bring a check for $25.00 made out to the City of Federal Way for the
King County recording fee. Following recording, a Certificate of Accessory Dwelling Unit
Compliance will be issued for the property.
