MINUTES
I. CALL MEETING TO ORDER
Mayor Gates opened the study session of the Federal Way City Council at 5:05 p.m., in Council
Chambers, City Hall, Federal Way, Washington.
City Council present: Mayor Mary Gates, Deputy Mayor Phil Watkins, Councilmembers Ron
Gintz, Ray Tomlinson, Bob Stead, Skip Priest. Late arrival: Councilmember Hope Elder.
City Staff present: City Manager Ken Nyberg, City Clerk Maureen Swaney, Deputy City Clerk
Chris Green.
• II. POLICE SERVICE OPTIONS
City Manager Ken Nyberg presented a detailed report on police service options to the Council
and responded to a variety of questions. The options included services with King County and
the City of Tacoma, as well options to establish the city's own department or that of a tri-city
shared department with SeaTac and Burien. Mr. Nyberg recommended the Council accept the
King County proposal, as he feels it is in the best interest of the citizens. Council will make
a decision during tonight's regular meeting.
III. ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to come before the Council, Mayor Gates adjourned the study
session of the Federal Way City Council a the hour of 6: p.m..
