Planning Comm MINS 01-28-1998 SUMMARY
Commissioners present: Robert Vaughan (Chair), Tim Carr, Peter Morse, Lu Joslin, and Dean
Greenough. Commissioner absent: Todd Suchan and Karen Kirkpatrick. Staff present: Deputy
Director of CDS Kathy McClung, Senior Planner Margaret Clark, Traffic Engineer Rick Perez,
and Administrative Assistant E. Tina Piety.
Chair Vaughan called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
It was m/s/c to approve the minutes of December 3, 1997.
AUDIENCE COMMENT
None.
ADMINISTRATIVE REPORT
Ms. McClung informed the commission that there will be no meeting in February because the
amount of work for the comprehensive plan amendments continues to grow. The
Environmentally Sensitive Areas Amendment is scheduled for the March 2, 1998, LUTC. The
LUTC has added a Planning Commission comment period to their agenda. The Volunteer
Recognition Dinner is February 27, 1998. The city is developing a Web Site, additional
information will be presented at a future meeting. The address is www.ci.federal_way.wa.us, be
sure to check it out. The Federal Way City Code is available at www.municode.com. Ms.
McClung presented the Proposed 1998 Work Program and asked for feedback. There was none.
COMMISSION BUSINESS - Comprehensive Plan Amendments
Ms. Clark presented a workshop on the comprehensive plan amendments. She gave an overview
of the planning process. She noted that zoning is the teeth of the comprehensive plan. Mr. Perez
spoke about traffic issues. The commission complemented Mr. Perez on his presentation.
