MINUTES
In attendance: Commission Members: Chelsea Wolbert, Chelsea Friedman, Hayley
Johnson, Allison Palumbarit, Kiley Martin, Michelle Fernandez, Doris Jeong,
Clancey Four Bear, Anthon y Hutchinson, Sarah Kirsch, Hanna Ory,
Catherine Rawsthorne
Absent, Excused: Shannon Bernard y, Lanelle Ava
Staff: Aaron Moe, Senior/Teen Services Coordinator
1. CALL TO ORDER
Commissioner Wolbert called the meeting to order at 5:20 p.m.
2. APPROVAL OF DECEMBER MEETING MINUTES
ANTHONY HUTCHINSON MOVED, DORIS JEONG SECONDED. A MOTION TO
APPROVE THE DECEMBER MUNITES AS WRITTEN. MOTION PASSED.
*A typo in the agenda concerning the date of the last meeting was corrected.
3. PUBLIC COMMENT
None.
4. COMMISSION BUSINESS
a. TUNE – Commissioner Friedman announced that the Youth Commission members
should arrive at Todd Beamer high school at 6:00 pm in order to help set up. We will
need to be out the door by 11:00 pm. One other band was added to the lineup, making
it a total of 6 bands playing. A guest list was added for the band members. Each band
will be allowed to put 3 people on the guest list. Supplies are going to be bought for
the concert. We will request if we will be able to use the risers at the school for a
stage. A poster will be made for the lineup schedule. Safety issues were discussed,
also.
b. Special Events – MLK Jr. Day (1/16/06): Commissioner Kirsch encouraged everyone
to come. She contacted the people in charge of this event and found out that no
volunteer help was needed. This event will be held at Decatur High School from
10:30 am to 12:30 pm on January 16, 2006.
c. Adopt a Family – Commissioner Martin and Commissioner Hutchinson were able to
by the gifts for the family that was adopted. They were able to deliver the presents.
Overall, they said that it was a good experience, and that they were glad that they were
able to do this.
d. Talent Show – Commissioner Palumbarit discussed and planned the dates for the
upcoming Talent Show. It was decided that the auditions would take place on
Wednesday, March 15; the dress rehearsal would be on Tuesday, March 21 and the
actual talent show would be on Wednesday, March 22. Flyers will be made to hand
out.
e. Teen Art Expo – Commissioner Johnson said that flyers were going to be made
soon. The Art Expo will officially start on April 6 and will end on May 31.
f. Youth Recognition Night – A date was set for Youth Recognition Night. It will be
on Wednesdasy, April 19. On that day, the Youth Commission will hold a meeting at
4:00 pm at the Dumas Bay center.
g. Battle of the Bands – A new locations is still being discussed. The new location
will need to attract a better crowd.
5. NEW BUSINESS
a. Graffiti Cleanup: What buildings that the commission could clean up were discussed.
One idea among them was to clean up school buildings. It was discussed that we could also
have a “city cleanup” where the Youth Commission would be able to clean up the parks and
roads.
b. Parks Division: Aaron Moe brought up the news that the Parks Division wanted a Youth
Commission member to go to their meetings. He asked whether anybody was interested to go
to about 6-8 of their meetings.
c. City Counsel Meeting: Commissioner Wolbert and Commissioner Johnson spoke about
how they went to the City Counsel meeting to give an overview about the Youth
Commission. They gave an overview of the things that the Youth Commission did and
outlined their work plan.
6. NEXT MEETING
The next meeting will be held on February 15, 2006.
