Youth Comm MINS 02-15-2006 City of Federal Way YOUTH COMMISSION Wednesday, February 15, 2006 Klahanee Lake Community Center, Classroom 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. 33901 9th Ave S (253)835-6925 MINUTES In attendance: Commission Members: Chelsea Friedman, Hayley Johnson, Allison Palumbarit, Kiley Martin, Michelle Fernandez, Doris Jeong, Clancey Four Bear, Anthon y Hutchinson, Sarah Kirsch, Hanna Ory, Catherine Rawsthorne, Shannon Bernard y, Lanelle Ava Absent, Excused: Chelsea Wolbert Staff: Aaron Moe, Senior/Teen Services Coordinator 1. CALL TO ORDER Commissioner Johnson called the meeting to order at 5:27 p.m. 2. APPROVAL OF DECEMBER MEETING MINUTES SARAH KIRSCH MOVED, DORIS JEONG SECONDED. A MOTION TO APPROVE THE JANUARY MUNITES AS WRITTEN. MOTION PASSED. *A typo in the agenda concerning the date of the last meeting was corrected. 3. PUBLIC COMMENT None. 4. COMMISSION BUSINESS a. TUNE – About 172 people showed up for TUNE night, raising about $860 in total. Everyone agreed that overall the event turned out really well and was successful. Also, everybody agreed that all the bands played well. The stage that was set up was a great addition to TUNE night and the bands also liked this new addition. One change that Commissioner Friedman assisted we do for the next TUNE night is to make more lineup posters for the show. The next TUNE night will be Acoustic Night. The date for this show will be on Friday, April 21, 2006. Commissioner Friedman will try and find bands for this show. b. Special Events – Commissioner Kirsch recently went to a Parks division meeting. She summarized how they wanted to expand Middle School sports fields and connect local parks. She then handed out a survey that the commission wanted us to fill out. Also, there will be a flashlight egg hunt at Saghalie Middle School on April 7, 2006 from 7:00pm – 9:00 pm. c. Adopt a Family – Already recapped in previous meeting. d. Talent Show – Flyers have already been printed out and will be passed out within the Federal Way schools. The application for the talent show is posted online through the city’s website. Depending on the number of people who are interested in auditioning, auditions will be held either at the theater or at the Klahanee center. e. Teen Art Expo – Commissioner Johnson passed around the flyers that need to be sent out to the schools. It was advised that we pass out the flyers to the art teachers or art clubs at our school. None of the other commissioners need to come and set up. This event will stat on April 5 through May 30 at the Knutzen Family Theater. f. Youth Recognition Night – Flyers have already been made for this event and will have to be passed. g. Battle of the Bands – Commissioner Friedman said to keep considering venue options for this event. 5. NEW BUSINESS a. Graffiti Cleanup: Already discussed during the previous meeting. 6. NEXT MEETING The next meeting will be held on March 15, 2006. 7. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 5:59 p.m.
