1. CALL TO ORDER

2. APPROVAL OF APRIL MEETING MINUTES
SHANNON BERNARDY MOVED, DORIS JEONG SECONDED. A MOTION TO
APPROVE THE APRIL MINUTES AS WRITTEN. MOTION PASSED.
3. PUBLIC COMMENT
None.
4. COMMISSION BUSINESS
a. BUDGET – The budget was printed out and discussed. The Youth Commission
usually gets around $1,800 a year. We have already spent $700. We have brought in
$936. Aaron Moe commented on our progress by saying that our expenditures were on
track and that the revenue was beyond predicted. Overall, we are doing well. The extra
money can be used for Youth Commission t-shirts.
b. TUNE – Acoustic Night 4/21: Originally, there was supposed to be a lineup of 6
bands/performers. However, a week prior to the event, Commissioner Wolbert said that
2 of the bands had canceled. The turnout wasn’t as great as previous TUNE nights.
There was definitely a smaller turnout this time around. About 40 people showed up
(that including the performers and commissioners). Only about $100 was made. The
show itself was short because only 3 bands/performers performed. One of the bands
wasn’t able to play because they showed up late. The Commissioners discussed how
they would be able to improve on other TUNE nights. Sending and passing out flyers
earlier is something we need to improve on.
c. Special Events – No special events are currently being planned.
d. Adopt a Family – This event was already completed.
e. Talent Show – This event was already completed.
f. Teen Art Expo – The Teen Art Expo event is completed. The artworks will be taken
down on May 31. Commissioner Johnson and Jeong will be there to take them down.
The only problem when had with this event was the difficulty of hanging the artworks on
the wall.
g. Youth Recognition Night – The 8 people that were given the awards all showed up.
There was a bit of a disappointment from the parents and students that the awarding
ceremony wasn’t held in the theater. The reason for this was because of the small
amount of people. A suggestion on how to improve this event is to collect the
applications from the teacher rather than having them mail them out.
h. Battle of the Bands – The date for this year’s Battle of the Bands is set to be held
possibly on August 12. However, the commission got the news that Aaron Moe would
be leaving. Also, Commissioner Wolbert won’t be available during the summer because
of her new job. There will be no meetings in July but we might have a meeting sometime
during the summer. It was agreed upon that Battle of the bands will be held at Todd
Beamer HS in the courtyard. Bands for the lineup will be decided upon and flyers are yet
to be made. An estimate of about 6-10 bands will play. Amber Pacific may play as a
special guest. This will be discussed at the next meeting. The band applications for the
event are online. Band applications and demos are to be returned to the Klahanee Center.
The commissioners chose to waive the application fee. Prizes will be decided upon.
Commissioners are to ask around for donations from stores. Some ideas would be from
Best Buy, Guitar Center, Helmer’s Music, Coldstones, Applebees, Red Robins, and radio
stations (such as 107.7 The End). The donation letters will be sent out. Trophies will be
made as a prize also.
i. Graffiti Clean-Up – The graffiti clean-up has been moved to Friday, May 19. It
will be held at Sacajawea at 9:00 am. About 8 of the Youth Commissioners will be able
to show up.
5. NEW BUSINESS
a. Youth Commission T-Shirts: Commissioner Bernardy created a design for the
Youth Commission t-shirts. All of the commissioners liked the design. Everybody wrote
down the sizes for their shirt.
6. NEXT MEETING
The next meeting will be held on June 14, 2006.
7. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 6:27 p.m.
