Youth Comm MINS 07-19-2006 City of Federal Way YOUTH COMMISSION Wednesday, July 19, 2006 Klahanee Lake Community Center, Classroom 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. 33901 9th Ave S (253)835-6925 MINUTES In attendance: Commission Members: Allison Palumbarit, Kiley Martin, Michelle Feranndez, Shannon Bernardy, Lanelle Ava Absent Unexcused: Sarah Kirsch, Clancey Four Bear, Chelsea Wolbert, Hayley Johnson,Doris Jeong, , Anthony Hutchinson, Hanna Ory, Catherine Rawsthorne Absent Excused: Chelsea Friedman Staff: David Schmidt, Senior/Teen Services Coordinator 1. CALL TO ORDER Commissioner Fernandez called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. 2. APPROVAL OF JUNE MEETING MINUTES SHANNON BERNARDY MOVED, LANELLE AVA SECONDED. A MOTION TO APPROVE THE JUNE MINUTES AS WRITTEN. MOTION PASSED. 3. PUBLIC COMMENT a. None 4. COMMISSION BUSINESS a. Special Events – Commissioner Kirsch wasn’t here so we weren’t able to discuss Special Events. But as far as we were concerned, we were not aware of any special events being planned. b. Youth Recognition Night – This event has alread y been completed. c. 4th of July Dunk Tank – Commissioner Martin and Bernardy were able to make it to this event. They said that it was pretty cold and that next time they would like the booth to close at an earlier time. In all, they sold about 450 – 460 tickets. d. Battle of the Bands – Battle of the Bands applications were put up online. So far, only 1 application came back. Commissioner Friedman had 3 pending bands, however, 1 recently dropped out. Those bands include The Quiet City and Lucky for Nothing. We still need to get band applications out. The application due date will be extended another week. And the $15 application fee will be required. Flyers for this event will be made and sent out and we will try to put an ad in the newspaper. We will hold Battle of the Bands at Beamer. We are still working on donations for the prizes. At the least, we would like to have 5 bands on the list. This event will start at 7:00 pm on August 18. e. Expiring Terms– Terms are expired. Those who needed to renew their term should have done so. The interviews are to be held on August 1. 5. NEW BUSINESS a. None 6. NEXT MEETING The next meeting will be held on August 2, 2006. 7. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
