MINUTES
In attendance: Commission Members: Hayley Johnson, Allison Palumbarit, Kiley Martin,
Michelle Fernandez, Sarah Kirsch, Doris Jeong, Anthony Hutchinson, Hanna Ory,
Catherine Rawsthorne, Shannon Bernardy, Lanelle Ava, Catherine Rawsthorne,
Caroline Lee, Lyndsey Wilson
Absent Excused: Kiley Martin
Absent Unexcused: Clancey Four Bear, Alleh Pac, Jashmin Park
Staff: David Schmidt, Senior/Teen Services Coordinator
1. CALL TO ORDER
David Schmidt called the meeting to order at 5:15 p.m.
2. APPROVAL OF MEETING MINUTES

3. PUBLIC COMMENT
a. None
4. COMMISSION BUSINESS
a. Introduction of Youth Commission Members – This term’s first meeting began
with each of the Youth Commissioners present introducing themselves. There were two
new additions to the Youth Commission in attendance: Commissioner Lee and
Commissioner Wilson.
b. Review of Chair, Vice-Chair, PR, Secretary Positions – The roles and job of the
Chair, Vice-Chair, PR, Secretary, and Special Events Coordinator were described. Those
who held these positions last term described what they did. Commissioner Johnson
explained the role of the Chair and the Vice-Chair, Commissioner Fernandez described
the role of the Secretary, Commissioner Jeong described the role of the PR, and
Commissioner Kirsch explained the role of the Special Event Coordinator.
c. Election of Officers – Commissioner Johnson was nominated and elected for Chair.
Commissioner Kirsch was nominated and elected for Vice-Chair. Commissioner Jeong
was nominated and elected for PR. Commissioner Fernandez was nominated and elected
for Secretary. And Commissioner Wilson was elected for Special Events Coordinator.
d. Review of Commission Business/Events – Commissioner Johnson summarized each
of the events that the Youth Commission holds each year. She described events such as
Adopt A Family, TUNE, the Federal Way Talent Show, the Teen Art Expo, Youth
Recognition Night, and Battle of the Bands. Commissioner Johnson and Commissioner
Palumbarit also said that they would like the Youth Commission to participate in Relay
for Life this year.

The next meeting will be held on September 27, 2006.
