4. COMMISSION BUSINESS
a. Review Youth Commission City Code and By-Laws – Each commissioner went
over the Municipal Code. It was pointed out that Todd Beamer High School wasn’t on
the list of schools that make up the Youth Commission and a note was made to add it on.
b. Review Mission and Vision Statements – Commissioner Johnson read the Federal
Way Youth Commission Vision statement. The statement mentioned that both high
school students and middle school students are allowed to join the Youth Commission
was changed to just high school students because the Youth Commission is generall y
made up of all high school students.
c. (2004/2006 Work Plan Handout) – Commissioner Johnson went over a list of events
that the Youth Commission has held. There haven’t been any recent new events added
lately except for an acoustic night for TUNE. The Teen Art Expo might not happen this
year because the Art Commission has other plans. However, the Youth Commission
might be able to host its own Art Expo. If we do hold an Art Expo, we might not be able
to hold it in the Knutzen Family Theater. The Commons would be a possible alternative.
d. New Ideas – Commissioner Kirsch suggested that we hold a Movie Night at the
Knutzen Theater. The plan is to hold it on December 15 and charge around $3-$4 or ask
for a donation of can foods which count as a $1 discount. A family movie night should
be held first to see whether Movie Night is successfully. If it is, the Youth Commission
plans to hold a teen movie night.
