PRHSPSC MINS 02-14-2012City of Federal Way City Council PARKS, RECREATION, HUMAN SERVICES & PUBLIC SAFETY COUNCIL COMMITTEE Tuesday, February 14, 2012 5:30 p.m. SUMMARY Committee Members in Attendance: Committee Chair Susan Honda, Council member Freeman, and Council member Kochmar. Council Members in Attendance: Council member Jeanne Burbidge. Staff Members in Attendance: Brian Wilson, Chief of Police, Cary Roe, Director, Parks, Public Works and Emergency Management, Amy Jo Pearsall, City Attorney, Steve Ikerd Parks & Facilities Manager, and Mary Jaenicke, Administrative Assistant II. Guest: None Chair Honda called the meeting to order at 5:30p.m. Public Comment: None Commission Comment: None APPROVAL OF SUMMARY Council member Freeman moved to approve the January meeting summary. Council member Honda seconded. Motion passed. BUSINESS ITEMS Retainage Release for All Around Fence Mr. Ikerd reported that there is a formal process to go through to release the retainage held from contracts. The city must show the state that the project has been completed, and accepted by the full Council. The City had a contract with All Around Fence to install backstops and fencing at Lakota Park. The amount of the contract was $40,405.50. The work has been completed, and the amount of retainage to be released is $1,845.00. Council member Kochmar moved to forward the acceptance of the All Around Fence contract as complete and authorize staff to release their $1,845.00 Retainage to the full Council February 21, 2012 consent agenda for approval. Council member Freeman seconded. Motion passed. Council member Freeman stated that the site looks good. Mr. Ikerd stated that bleachers and benches for the dugouts will also be added. CrimeReports.com ā€“ Information Only Chief Wilson stated that one of the most frequently asked questions and phone calls the Department gets is from citizens wanting crime information on their neighborhood, the city, and the location of where the crimes are taking place. The Federal Way Police Department would like to use a program called CrimesReport.com. With this program, citizens will have the ability to go online and get the information that they are looking for. This program has been successful for many agencies. CrimeReports.com will provide email notifications to subscribers, search capabilities and basic crime analysis. Citizens will also have the ability to provide anonymous tips, and to look up registered sex offenders in their area. The annual subscription is $2,388.00. By doing a 3 year subscription, the cost would be reduced by 20%. Active investigations and personal information will not be put on the program. PENDING ITEMS Chair Honda asked the committee if there was anything they would like to add to pending items. Council member Kochmar would like Festival Days to be added as a pending item. Chair Honda asked who would be in charge of the event. Council member Kochmar stated that it would be the Parks Department, and volunteers, and the funding would come from the Lodging Tax. Council member Kochmar suggested asking other cities what they do. Council member Burbidge stated that Buds nā€™ Blooms Festival is coming up, and they formed their own independent group.
