VIII. Discuss Town Square Council/Mayor/Patrick Doherty
THIS DISCUSSION IS EXPECTED TO LAST 75 MINUTES
At last year’s strategic planning meeting the Council expressed
interest in developing the Town Square Site (formerly the AMC
Theatre property) into a four-acre park and a four-acre multi-level,
mixed used urban development. Since then, discussions with
representatives of the development/building community have
indicated that the kind of urban development in Town Square
that was envisioned last year may not be feasible.
Starting with the 50% of the property the City envisions as Mayor Ferrell
parkland, what’s the current thinking regarding how the park
could be developed over time? How could developing a park
relate to or trigger development of the rest of the property?
What is the status of talks with developers regarding market Councilmembers/Patrick
conditions for developing the remaining 50% of Town Square?
What have we learned from those discussions? What is the
Council’s vision for the property? How does it relate to the
vision for downtown and the broader community?
IX. Rebranding the City Council/Mayor
THIS DISCUSSION IS EXPECTED TO LAST 30 MINUTES
What are the City’s interests in rebranding itself? What key
messages does the City need to be communicate to its
4
residents, business owners, tourists, and others who may
be interested in Federal Way? How might those messages
influence the new brand? What should be the next steps
and timeline for launching this effort?
