Federal Way, WA 98003 • Dear Mr. Schmidt, I am writing in response to your posting for open positions on the Youth Commission. I am very interested in the opportunity to be a part of this commission and am attaching my application. Righ now I am a sophomore at Decatur High School, taking AP and college prep courses, and maintaining an average GPA of 3.0 or higher. I am on track to graduate June 2017. I understand that the term of a Youth Commission member is two years and am willing to commit to that term. Throughout my life, first with my family and now also through my school, I have done community service. I am thankful for all I have and I think it's important to help make life better for everyone in the place I live. It's also fun and rewarding to be a part of something big like We Scare Hunger or the Break The Chains run, where you are working with lots of different people. If I-can do something to get more people involved in events like that, I would feel like I had made a difference for Federal Way. ' year became Vice President for the Video Game Club. It was I've been involved in Decatur s Key Club for two years, and this y ar I a very small getup when I joined and not too organized. I've been working at improving it, doing more promotion, recruiting people to join, getting contact information and asking for suggestions and ideas. We've worked together to get more equipment so more people can play together and just recently organized our first tournament. I even convinced four teachers to join us for a grudge match! What I like about this dub is that it brings in some people who don't normally get involved in extracurricular activities at school. I hope we are making a place where everyone feels welcome. Another interest I have is astronomy. I'm taking pre-engineering classes at school and joined the Tacoma Astronomical Society last year. Since space holds the secrets to our existence, it's really fascinating to me. I hope to travel to the space station, the moon or even Mars someday. For now, I'm looking forward to going to my first star party camp with TAS this summer. Thank you for considering my application. I would like to work with people beyond my high school on projects to help the city and hope the Youth Commission will be a way for me to do this. Before this year I attended private schools (Spring Valley Montessori and most recently Charles Wright Academy). I believe that the difference in education could potentially provide a unique viewpoint on the education in Federal Way. I believe a lot in education and would love the opportunity to work with the city to help improve our city's schools. I am also interested in local government and would much enjoy the chance to serve in my local government by being a Youth Commissioner and provide for the city by representing my many friends. I would like to be apart of the brainstorming of creative ideas, and I am told that I am a good listener and work well with both other peers and adults. I am also an avid sports participant, and believe that it is important for kids my age to participate in extracurricular activities. I believe . that activities like sports and other clubs can foster good skills like teamwork and leadership into youth like myself. • e _ 10/26/2014 Jesse Goldstone 206-305-7070 Jessiny.bessiny @gmail.com 510 SW 295th-PI, Federal Way;WA.98023 Objectives Participate in the Youth Commission. PELLICCIOTTI 125 SW Campus Drive, #3-102 Federal Way, Washington 98023 May 12, 2015 The Federal Way City C ty Council City Halt Council Chambers 33325 8th Ave. S. Federal Way, WA 98003 Dear Councilmembers: Please accept my application to serve on the City's Human Services Commission. I believe that my background and experience makes me a good candidate for a vacancy on the commission. For the past two years I have chaired our state's Equal Justice Coalition, which is a bi-partisan organization that educates local, state, and federal lawmakers from Washington on the importance of access to the civil justice system for vulnerable persons. We seek to promote the rule of law by ensuring that those laws passed by legislators are applied equally for all Washingtonians, especially those benefits available for basic necessities of life. In my day-to-day work, as an assistant attorney general, I help manage our state's effort to combat fraud by healthcare providers in the Medicaid system, and criminally prosecute those health providers who physically abuse and neglect vulnerable adults. I am committed to ensuring that the legal rights and personal integrity of all Washingtonians, especially the-elderly and our most vulnerable, am upheld. Before joining the Attorney's General's Office, I was a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for King County, where I most recently prosecuted sex traffickers, sex offenders, and recidivist domestic violence batterers in South King County. I led cases in our community where some of our most vulnerable residents faced unspeakable harm, and needed essential services. I value the important work of the Human Services Commission, and the Council through its leadership, in ensuring that our city's human services are assessed and our needs prioritized. I have been responsible for similar organizational service-provider evaluation like the commission performs. As a member of the American Bar Association Board of Governors and its Executive Committee, I chaired the Association's Program,Evaluation, and Planning Committee, where I led a budget allocation process of over$1OOM in funding for various services. Through that work I have developed experience in prioritizing limited resources among many worthy service providers. • Thank you for the opportunity to apply. Please let me know if I can provide further information.
