Youth Comm 01-20-2016 MinsCITY OF FEDERAL WAY YOUTH COMMISSION Wednesday January 20, 2016 Party Rooms 5:00 p.m. Federal Way Community Center MEETING MINUTES Chair Erynn called the meeting to order at 5:07pm. Present: Alyssa Odom, Erynn Littlefield, Anastassia Kostin, Judy Kim, Jesse Goldstone, Jillian Ory, Connor Bronson - Doherty, Robert McFarlane, Alex Kinzner, Sandra Ojeaburu Absent: Chris Chung (unexcused), Isaiah Bush, Mohammed Ramzan (unexcused), Elizabeth Sandstedt Staff: David Schmidt — Senior Services Coordinator, David Clemons — Administrative Assistant PUBLIC COMMENT None COMMISSION BUSINESS November Minutes Chair Erynn motioned to approve November minutes to unanimous approval by all present commissioners. Attendance Schmidt asked the commissioners to make the monthly meetings more of a priority. He also asked the commissioners to make more of an effort to meet outside of the meetings in their sub - committees. Donations Commisioner Alex brought in a bag of food items. Jingle Bell Brunch Vice Chair Alyssa reports the event was successful and fun to volunteer at. Commissioners Robert, Jesse, Anastassia, Jillian, and alt. Connor were also present as volunteers. Book Fair Commissioner Anastassia expressed concerns that the event wouldn't necessarily attract a teen demographic which is who the group would ideally would want. She did state the library located on 1't Avenue South is willing to host the event should they choose to move forward with it. Daughter's Night out Event Schmidt asked for volunteer interest for the upcoming event in February. Chair Erynn, Vice Chair Alyssa, and commissioners Jillian and Jesse were willing to attend. Sub - Commitees Schmidt has received the check from the Menchies take -over. The total raised was $140.00. The commissioners divided into their sub - committees to discuss and plan fundraising opportunities and possible upcoming events. Youth Commission, January 20, 2016 Page 2 NEW BUSINESS Commissioner Anastassia is working with Council member Susan Honda and Sharry Edwards from the King County Public Library System with the hopes of creating an event to raise awareness of the homeless in our community and their needs. Chair Erynn recommended meeting off -site at a future meeting. _NEXT MEETING /AGENDA ITEMS The next meeting is scheduled for February 17, 2016. Items for the next meeting are: Commission Business Sub - committees Daughter's Night out ADJOURNMENT Chair Erynn ended the meeting at 6:30pm.
