Dibble Engineers has reviewed the entry awning/canopy steel post base anchorage in light of the.
reported spalling conditions. While the edge distances are adequate per the manufacturer's
requirements, spalling has been reported at two of four proposed close edge conditions (2" actual
edge distance, with a manufacturer minimum I3 /" edge distance).
The requirements for four anchor bolts per base plate is a WSHAIOSHA minimum requirement
for erection/installation stability; however, after the posts have been installed and secured to the
structure, it is justifiable to use less. Therefore, DEI would recommend that the bolts which are
likely to cause spalling not be installed. This would include one bolt at the columns on the.ends
of the canopy, and the two outer bolts at the center column. The column base connections will be
adequate for the design loads in their installed state with the reduced anchorage. Grout packs
shall be installed below the column base plates for full bearing per the construction documents.
DEI would suggest repair of the spalled concrete areas for aesthetic considerations. The repair
should consist of installing low- shrink grout pack (with a bonding agent) to fill -out to the
original intended face(s) of concrete. 15 CQZL�
