INTRODUCTION
This letter summarizes our observations and our conclusions regarding geotechnical aspects of
construction of the Buffalo Wild Wings building at The Commons at Federal Way in Federal Way,
Washington. We previously completed a geotechnical report for Steadfast Commercial Properties that
addressed certain improvements at The Commons including Building Pad E, which is the site for the
Buffalo Wild Wings facility. The Steadfast report is dated January 20, 2006. During May 2006 and June
2006 we also observed site preparation earthwork for Building Pad E. Our services during construction of
the Buffalo Wild Wings facility were authorized on August 7, 2012.
OBSERVATIONS
Our services were provided on a part-time, on- request basis. We visited the site seven times at your
request between August 2012 and October 2012 to observe earthwork activities. Earthwork activities we
observed included preparation of the existing building pad subgrade, excavation and preparation of
foundation bearing surfaces, and placement and compaction of asphalt concrete pavement (ACP) in
parking areas for the facility.
The building pad was evaluated by proof- rolling the exposed soils after removal of surficial materials. We
evaluated the foundation bearing surfaces by probing the subgrade after excavation and observing and
testing relative compaction of the structural fill at foundation grade. We tested compaction of the ACP
after observing placement and compaction. We were not called onto the site to observe placement and

compaction of trench backfill. Our observations and test results for each site visit are presented on field
construction inspection reports provided to you previously as construction progressed.
CONCLUSIONS
Based on our observations it is our opinion that the structural fill soils in the building pad subgrade and
foundation bearing surfaces exposed by excavation were adequately prepared and in a firm and
unyielding condition suitable for the planned improvements. It is our further opinion based on our
observations and testing that preparation of the building pad and foundation bearing surfaces met the
intent of the project plans and specifications and the recommendations provided in our January 20, 2006
report.

We have prepared this summary letter for the exclusive use of Buffalo Wild Wings and their authorized
agents for the Buffalo Wild Wings at the Commons at Federal Way in Federal Way, Washington.
Within the limitations of scope, schedule and budget, our services have been executed in accordance
with generally accepted practices in the field of geotechnical engineering in this area at the time this
report was prepared. No warranty or other conditions, express or implied, should be understood.
