The area where the deck will be extended is relatively level with a slight slope to down to the north onto the adjacent property.The slope is less than 10 percent and is landscaped at this time.There is a steep slope up to the adjacent property to the east but this will not be influenced by the addition of the deck footings since it is on the opposite side of the house. Tt is our understanding that the design of the deck foundation includes the placement of two concrete pads to a depth of about 12 inches below the existing grade. The footings will be about 18 inches square. We understand that the area is mapped as a potential landslide area by the city of Federal Way. Based upon our observations on-site this date, it is our opinion that the placement of the deck footings in the planned location will not increase in the risk to slope stability and therefore should not be considered a landslide hazard. We also understand that the area is mapped as a potential erosion hazard area as noted by the city of Federal Way. The area surrounding the location of the proposed footings is heavily landscaped and did not appear to be an erosion hazard.
