We are required to verify compliance with King County Health Department regulations for any project proposed on a site served by a septic system. However, because the drawings that were submitted and approved for the Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) building permit did not include information relative to the existing septic system and drain field, or any proposed modifications to the system to accommodate the ADU, such approval was not requested prior to permit issuance. The building permit was issued based on our receipt of a Certificate of Sewer Availability from Lakehaven Utility District and the assumption that the site was to be connected to the public sewer. The approved site plan for the project shows an underground sewer connection. To ensure its unfettered progress, it is critical that all relevant features of your project have been reviewed and approved. Please provide clarification concerning the proposed method of handling waste disposal for the ADU. ■ If it is to be served by the public sanitary sewer system, submit a septic system decommissioning plan that is approved by the King County Health Department. If the existing septic system is to be utilized, submit four copies of a revised site plan that clearly depicts all components of the existing system and any proposed modifications required to accommodate the ADU, as well as approval of the site plan and septic system design from the King County Health Department. Bear in mind that there is a possibility of additional land use or environmental review requirements, depending on the configuration and placement of equipment in proximity to the shoreline.
