Kia CO reviewed structural calculations and details from January 17, 2014 for connection
of 4x8 sleepers to the roof structure.
The above connection is with #10 x 1 '/2"tek screws, and in our opinion these screws are
small enough (almost equivalent of 10d common nails) that they will not create any
problem with truss top chords as far as splitting or damaging them.
