This letter summarizes our site observations and data review, and provides our opinion
regarding the potential erosion hazard at the subject site. We understand that you plan to
construct an addition to the existing residential structure at the site. The deck addition will
extend approximately 6 feet west from the existing deck areas and residence. The new deck
addition will be supported on conventional deck supports embedded approximately 12 inches
below the existing site grades.
We further understand that the City has requested a site evaluation based on the west
portion of the subject site being mapped within a potential erosion hazard area. Based on our
site observations the ground surface at the site and the adjacent areas is less than 10 percent
to the northwest. The subject site and adjacent residential lots are well vegetated with
ornamental grass, shrubs and trees. No evidence of erosion was observed at the time of our
site visit. Based on our discussions, no disturbance of the vegetation/site will occur other than
for the deck supports. The deck support areas will be on the order of one square foot. The
lawn area will be restored following construction.
Based on our site observations and data review, although the site is mapped within an
erosion hazard area, it is our opinion that the site does not meet the technical criteria of an
erosion hazard area. The site is well vegetated and maintained. No significant disturbance is
proposed for the deck addition. The deck addition will not adversely impact the subject site or
the adjacent areas.
